If there is anything that we have learned in the last few weeks, it’s that having a comfortable home is something that is not only desirable, but essential for all of us. It might be a bit of a cliché, but home really is where the heart is.

While Coronavirus (or COVID-19) has altered our way of living and working, it has also made us think about our living spaces even more. There is nothing like spending weeks on end in your home to realise what you do – and don’t – love. And, starting to plan for your new dream home is an ideal way to keep you sane during these times of self-isolation and give you a positive project to work on.

If you don’t know where to start – take a look at our current designs. There’s a great variety of homes to choose from, ranging from our ever-popular Hamptons designs such as the Liana to the up-and-coming mid-century aesthetic of the Banyan, both single and double-storey. Looking for the perfect alfresco area? A media room? Walk-in robe? A feature bench seat? How about an open-plan kitchen with butler’s pantry? We have the solutions for you and at a price you can afford.

If you use one of our current designs, the design process is simple and speedy, but if you’re customising our plans or starting from scratch, we’ve seen the design process take anywhere from 2 to 6 months, depending on the complexities of the build.

Once the design is agreed on by you, the job moves to the tendering process, then contract execution, followed by the relevant authority approvals (DA or CDC).

Council approvals can add another 4 to 8 months to the process (depending upon your local authorities and the complexity of the design). This means that even before you break ground, there is often 6 to 12 months in the lead up to the actual build.

With the build time somewhere between 6 to 12 months (depending on the size of the home), you can see that from concept to completion, building your new home can be a drawn-out process, albeit a very satisfying one.

However, this is a great opportunity to start putting some plans into motion and using this quiet time to craft the home that you have always dreamed of – and give your family something to look forward to when the pandemic is over.

We are still doing inspections by private appointment (abiding by government regulations) and our draftsman and architect are still operating. Local councils are also still open, enabling us to work through the details with them easily.
